DAA Signs Heads of Agreement with Lynxs for New Shannon Cargo Facility

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has signed heads of agreement with US company Lynxs to develop a new global air freight hub at Shannon Airport.

Under the agreement, Lynxs is planning to construct a new temperature controlled freight logistics facility

at Shannon with infrastructural support from DAA. This new state-of-the-art facility will now be marketed

to both existing freight and logistics companies at Shannon and to potential new customers both

domestically and internationally.

The signing of heads of agreement confirms the commitment of both parties to the project and enables

Lynxs to move to the next phase of its due diligence process.

“We are delighted to have signed heads of agreement with Lynxs, as this enables them to move to the

next stage of the project and begin detailed due diligence,” said DAA Chief Executive Declan Collier. “We

wish them every success in this process and will continue to work with Lynxs to agree a final binding

agreement for the new Shannon cargo facility over the coming months.”

The new cargo hub will provide significantly improved facilities for Shannon’s existing cargo businesses

and will radically re-position the airport’s cargo capabilities. The Lynxs facility will include chilled, frozen

and heated areas for cargo which would enable Shannon to bid for more high value, high volume freight

business.

Shannon Airport has a large industrial hinterland that generates significant amounts of commercial freight.

At present, much of this business is transported by road to other airports outside Ireland and the Lynxs

facility would aim to repatriate much of that business and also grow Shannon’s overall cargo throughput.

The wider region also has a strong manufacturing base with companies transporting large amounts of

cargo out of and into Ireland.

Shannon Airport Authority (SAA) Chairman Brian O’Connell also welcomed the signing of the heads of

agreement by DAA and Lynxs. “Lynxs will give Shannon Airport an excellent opportunity to exploit its

central location between the major economies of the US, Europe and Asia and to develop as a significant

cargo destination,” Mr O’Connell said.

“Shannon has always led the way in international air trade, with its pioneering duty free and Free Trade

Zone operations, and more recently with the successful US Customs & Border Protection (CBP)

passenger and general aviation pre-clearance facility,” Mr O’Connell added. “The opportunity of extending

CBP to cargo at a future date could develop a whole new range of leading edge air cargo services at

Shannon Airport, which would bring substantial investment, employment and more business to the

region.”

According to Mr O’Connell, Shannon’s position on all the major trade routes, its profile as a well-

established entry point between US and EU customs, the success of the existing CBP facility, and the

industrial base in the region are major attractions for Lynxs.
